Arts Learning and Outreach: Mayor's Award for Arts Teaching
The DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities invites you to nominate an outstanding arts teacher for the Mayor's Award for Arts Teaching in the District of Columbia.
This award is given to outstanding applications of imagination and creativity taught in the DC Public Schools and DC Public Charter Schools. It serves to honor arts teachers who have demonstrated leadership in enhancing the quality of art education for DC's student population. An arts teacher may be nominated by school principals, parents, students, arts organizations or department supervisors.
There are three categories for the award which include:
- Excellence in Teaching Performing Arts
- Excellence in Teaching Visual Arts
- Excellence in Teaching Language Arts
Award Benefits
- The top three finalists in each category will be honored to the Mayor's Arts Award ceremony, to be held on Monday, March 23, 2009
- $2,000 honorarium to benefit the winning teacher.
- $500 prize to be used for special arts projects benefiting the award recipient's school and students
The extended deadline for the Mayor's Award for Arts Teaching nominations is 7 pm Friday, January 9, 2009.
