Internship Program Responsibilities/Qualifications

The DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities offers internship opportunities in five distinct areas of interest. Please state clearly on your cover letter your top two preferences.

Arts Learning & Outreach Internship
Responsibilities: Assist with all aspects of the Arts Learning and Outreach program, including project site visits, constituent technical assistance, and grant debriefings. Assist with the Artist Fellowship Program applicant exhibition. Research and distribute funding opportunities for teachers and artists. Assist with running the annual arts education professional development conference.

Qualifications: Arts Education Major preferred. Experience or interest in teaching, working with youth, public policy is helpful for this position. The candidate must have strong MS Office computer skills and ability to work independently. Bilingual candidates or those with graphic design experience are preferred.

Arts Programming Internship
Responsibilities: Assist with all aspects of managing three major grant programs, including site visits, research for debriefings, panel preparation and technical assistance meetings with applicants.

Qualifications: Arts major or interest in arts administration preferred. Strong computer skills, experience with graphic design (Adobe Creative Suite) and database software (MS Access) is helpful. Experience in producing performing arts events preferred.

Special Events Internship
Responsibilities: Assist with managing special programs and new initiatives of the Arts Commission, including development of new marketing plans, festivals, special presentations and grants programs.

Qualifications: Arts major preferred, with an interest in event management and grants management. Production and stage management experience skills are preferred. Strong communication skills (verbal and written) and ability to work independently are important. Knowledge of computers (MS Office).

Public Art Program Internship
Responsibilities: Assist with all aspects of public art programs, including logistics for the Art Bank program (acquisitions, site visits, installations, catalogue and accounts payable). Assist with logistics for public art competitions (requests for proposals, planning, community meetings, panels, etc.). Work with the program officer on transition of programs to the database.

Qualifications: Visual Arts and/or Art History major or background preferred. Strong computer skills (MS Access and Excel) and attention to detail needed for the internship. Knowledge of graphics software (Adobe) is helpful.

Marketing/Graphic Design Internship
Responsibilities: Assist with marketing and graphic design department initiatives.  Responsibilities include assisting in the design and production of multimedia, brochures, promotion mailers, posters and a range of other communications materials.

Qualifications: Graphic Design background required. Strong computer skills (Flash, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator on a Mac/PC platform), and possess the enthusiasm to enhance their design skills. This is an excellent opportunity to develop a portfolio of work while building organizational in a creative and supportive team environment.
