Neighborhood and Downtown Projects

The DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities' Percent for Art Program funds artwork in District neighborhoods, transit stations, parks, government offices, libraries, and other public sites. The program creates new financial opportunities for local artists and expands local art awareness.

Recently completed projects include:

  • The Glory of the Chinese Descendants, a sculpture by artist Foon Sham, in the Chinatown Metro station
  • Boundless Possibilities, a mosaic mural by Cheryl Foster, at the Southern Courts apartments, 885 Chesapeake Street in SE Washington
  • Scenes from Washington, a painted mural by G. Byron Peck, in the Metro Center Metro station
  • Library Starts/Library Obelisk, a wall-mounted sculpture by Sam Gilliam, at the Juanita E. Thornton/Shepherd Park Library, 7420 Georgia Avenue in NW Washington
