Thriving Families Exhibition

The DC Child and Family Services Agency (CFSA) in partnership with the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities (CAH) is excited to announce a special exhibition of original artwork and poetry from DC residents to promote awareness of National Child Abuse Prevention Month. This exhibition will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act (CAPTA) of 1974, which represented the United States' first major legislation to address the issue of child maltreatment across the nation.  

The theme for this exhibition is: What Does Thriving Look Like To You?

Call for Artworks: Thriving Families Exhibition

Local artists and writers of all ages are invited to submit artwork in response to this question through the following categories -  

ARTIST CATEGORIES:  

  • Young Artists (Grades K-4)  - Coloring Sheet with Prompt (download your coloring sheets below) 
  • Youth Artists (Grades 5-8) - Poster Competition 
  • Teen Artists (Grades 9-12) - Poster Competition 
  • Adult Artists (18 and up) - 2-D and 3-D artworks  
  • Creative Writing (All ages) - with optional audio & video recording (submit files here

FULL CALL FOR ART SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

*If art supplies are needed, please reach out to Erika Groover at [email protected] for all supplies requests. Supplies will be provided on a case-by-case basis.   

ELIGIBILITY: Artists must reside in the District of Columbia to participate. For adult artists, any original 2-D and 3-D work that meets the exhibition guidelines detailed in the call for art will be considered. All adult artworks must be delivered ready for wall installation. Works of poetry and lyrics will also be considered for display in the exhibit or in audio/video form to be played in the gallery.  

SUBMISSION DETAILS: All artworks should be submitted in person at 200 I (Eye) Street SE, Washington, DC 20003 no later than February 22, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. Selection of art and poetry for the exhibition will be made by the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities.
